In this tutorial, I'll show you how to create a firing medieval scene with a disintegration effect. You'll learn how to combine stock images, use debris brushes, work with fire, make a cool atmosphere and create lighting effects.

What you'll be creating

We'll start this tutorial by adding the background and blur it to create a depth of field. Then we'll add the knight and apply the debris brushes to him to create a shattered effect. Later we'll add the fire and create a glowing light for it. After that, we'll make the fire effect on the knight as well as use several adjustment layers to change the whole contrast and color. We'll finish it up with more light and fire sparks. You'll need Photoshop CS3 or newer to follow this tutorial.

Step 1

Create a new document in Photoshop with the settings below:

moment1

Step 2

Open the castle stock. Drag it into our white canvas using the Move Tool (V):

moment2

To add some depth to the scene, go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and set the radius to 6 px:

moment2a

Step 3

I used an adjustment layer and set as Clipping Mask to desaturate the background. Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation:

moment3
moment3a

Step 4

I used a Curves adjustment layer (Clipping Mask) to darken the castle background:

moment4

Step 5

Place the knight image in the middle section of the image and remove the background using a layer mask.

moment5

Step 6

Change the brush kind to the debris ones. Take the brushes you like and start painting on the arms to shatter these areas. I turned off the Curves adjustment layer of the castle to let you see the effect more clearly:

moment6

Step 7

To add more debris, on a new layer, use a debrish brush with any colors (I choose white) to paint on the knight body.

moment7

Turn off this layer. Hold down Cmd/Ctrl and click the debris thumbnail layer to load its selection:

moment7a

On the knight layer, right click this selection and choose Layer via Copy. Move the copied part onto the one of the shoulders.

moment7b

Step 8

Apply the same method to make more disintegration effect for the knight, use a layer mask to erase any unwanted debrises. Here is my result:

moment8

Turn on the Curves adjustment layer of the background.

Virtual Tuning Photoshop Tutorial

Step 1

To begin, I’ll be using this photo. You can use any photo you like for this tutorial to create your own virtual tuned car using the techniques in this tutorial.

1

Step 2

Use the Pen tool to create a path around the body of the car.

2

Step 3

In the Paths palette (Window > Paths), right-click on the path, then choose Make Selection. You can feather the edges by 0.3 px (Select > Modify > Feather) for smoother results.

3

Step 4

Choose Edit > Copy to copy the selected area onto your clipboard. Open another picture of a car taken at a similar angle. This picture will be for the background and wheels. Paste the body (Ctrl + V or Edit > Paste) onto the image. Use the Transform tools (Edit > Transform> *) to rotate and position the body so that it covers the car.

4

Step 5

Using the Lasso tool, create a selection of the bottom of the car and the rims on the background layer. A rough selection is fine.

5

Step 6

Create a new layer inbetween the two layers and fill the selected area with black.

6

Step 7

Hide the top two layers and see if there are any parts on the car that you can use. For example, in the image we used, we’ll be using the wheels and the front body kit. We’ll start with the front bumper lip. Create a selection of this bumper with the Lasso tool.

7

Step 8

Press Ctrl+J to duplicate the selected area into a new layer. Move this layer to the top and use the Move tool to position it on the car.

8

Step 9

Create a selection of the bumper cutout. Remember to feather the radius by 0.3 px (Select > Modify > Feather) for smoother results.

9

Step 10

Fill the selected area with black.

10

Step 11

Now we’ll take some chrome bumper parts. Find an image with a chrome bumper part that you like. Create a selection of it using the Lasso tool then choose Edit > Copy to copy it to your clipboard.

11

Step 12

Switch back to the main document then choose Edit > Paste to paste it as a new layer. Use the Transform tool (Edit> Free Transform) to position and resize the chrome part onto the bumper.

12

Step 13

Take the other side of the chrome part from the image and paste it onto the main document. Use the Transform tool (Edit > Free Transform) to resize and position the part into place.

13

Step 14

Create a selection like shown below, create a new layer, then fill it with a dark gray color for now.

14

Step 15

Fill the area with a carbon fiber texture. You can use Google Image Search to find many carbon fiber textures. Once you’ve placed the texture into the selected area, set the blend mode to Soft Light and opacity to 30%.

15

Step 16

Use the Pen tool to create a path like shown below.

16

Step 17

Create a new layer, then select the Brush tool and set the brush size to 2 pixels. Make sure that your foreground color is white. In the Paths palette (Window > Paths), right-click on the path you just created, then choose Stroke Path. Change the opacity of this layer to 20%. Repeat steps 16 and 17 for the two sides. Simply draw a path like the white areas below then stroke the path.

17

Step 18

Use the Lasso tool to create a selection like shown below. Remember to feather the selection by 0.3 pixels for better results. Copy the selected area onto your clipboard (Edit > Copy Merged).

18

Step 19

Download and open a photo of a cloudy sky. Choose Edit > Paste then position the new layer to somewhere in the clouds that you want to copy. Ctrl + click on the thumbnail of this layer to load the selection. Delete the layer then select back the Background layer. Copy the selected area onto your clipboard (Edit > Copy).

19

Step 20

Switch back to the main document then paste (Edit > Paste) the clouds. Position this on the carbon fiber then change the blend mode to Soft Light and opacity to about 50%.

20

Step 21

Create a selection like shown below.

21

Step 22

Find an image of a grill like the image below. Just like what you did before with the sky reflection, copy the selection of the grill and paste it back into the main document.

22

Step 23

Position the mesh texture onto the bumper like shown below then use the Burn tool to add some some shadows to the edge of it.

23

Step 24

Next, make a selection like shown below. Make sure that the layer with the body is selected.

24

Step 25

Step 1: Create a New Photoshop File

Now, let’s start by creating a new image file, go to the Menu bar and click File > New, and then input the following values on their respective fields:

  1. Preset: Custom
  2. Width: 3000px
  3. Height: 3000px
  4. Resolution: 300pixels/inch
  5. Color Mode: RGB Color; 8 bit
  6. Background Contents: Transparent
image003

Step 2: Add the foreground and improve its lighting

In this Step, we will be creating the land on which the mysterious house will be standing. Import the stock image - “Stock Field” by digital amphetamine to the canvas by clicking on File > Place and find it from the directory you’ve saved it into. Using the Place command is a non-destructive technique which will place the image as a Smart Object, and once the layer is a smart object you may transform it as many times as you like without any loss in quality.

image004
image005

Next, let’s darken the foreground. First, let’s create a new layer (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + N) and then we will create a Clipping Mask on the new layer to allow a non-destructive way to darken the foreground. To create a Clipping Mask, simply right-click on the newly created layer and then click on “Create Clipping Mask” once it opens.

Note: The new layer should be above the field layer.

image006
image007

Now, activate the Brush tool (B) but before you proceed, make sure that the Brushes to be used are the default PS brushes. The default Photoshop brushes are shown on the image below, if that’s not what you see, then follow the instructions below: Right click the canvas while a layer is selected and while the Brush tool (B) is activated and then click on the button highlighted below: Then click on “Reset Brushes” from the contextual menu. Now, that that is done input the following settings for our Brush tool (B):

  • Brush size: 800px
  • Hardness: 0%
  • Opacity: 15%
  • Flow: 100%
  • #: 000000

Step 1

Create a new document 3797x2440 px. Using the Gradient Tool to create a nice gradient with #04243f as foreground color and #0e74d6 as background color.

1

Step 2

Create a new layer (Ctrl + Shift + N), set the foreground color to white and using the stars brush create some stars.

2

Step 3

Create a new layer and using white and white-orange draw a comet coming from above. It’s not that hard really, just draw with the white brush a couple of short diagonal lines and draw a loose circle at the end of those lines (head of the comet).

3

Step 4

Open the clouds image and choose Select> Color Range. Click with the marker once on a bright spot in the picture to select most of the white clouds. Click Ok. Press Ctrl + C to copy the selection and close the clouds document. Go back to our document and press Ctrl + V to paste. Rename the pasted layer Clouds to keep layers from cluttering. Right click the Clouds layer and choose Convert To Smart Object. Press Ctrl + T to enter Free Transform and resize the clouds as I did in the image below. Finally, set the blending mode of the layer to Lighten.

4

Step 5

Add a layer mask to the Clouds layer (Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal All). With a soft black brush mask the edges of the clouds so that they integrate flawlessly with the sky.

5

Step 6

Create a new layer and set the blending mode to Overlay. Choose #e37952 as foreground color and with a soft brush paint lightly in the area indicated below. Lower the opacity of the layer to 40-50 %. This will be the horizon diffuse light later when we will add the terrain. You can also group all the layers we created until now. To group layers select them by shift- clicking each and press Ctrl + G.

6

Step 7

Open the file Moon and using the Elliptical Marquee Tool select the moon. Copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) into our document. Right click on the pasted layer and choose Convert to Smart Object. Resize and position as I did in the image below.

7

Step 8

Double-click the moon layer to enter Advanced Blending Mode and apply a color overlay (#71a8e3) set to Overlay Blending Mode.

8

Step 9

Add a layer mask to the layer moon and using a round black soft brush mask the lower and the left side of the moon.

9

Step 10

Let’s add some highlight to our moon. Create a new layer and add a layer mask (Layer > Layer Mask > Hide All). Ctrl- click on the moon layer to make a selection than press D to set the default colors. Finally, press Alt + Backspace to fill the selection with white. Click on the layer again to select it and with a white brush paint some highlights on the right and up side of the moon.

Step 1

We need a blank canvas to start working. Create a new file something similar to the one here. Whenever you are not sure about the dimensions just start with something and later you can always increase or decrease the canvas size.

img(1)

Step 2

Here we will create some basic shapes around which we will build our design. Select the Polygon Tool from the from the tool bar. We can edit the number of sides of the polygon. Since we need to draw a triangle, set the sides count to 3. Same time select the shape layers option and draw. This will create a new layer with an editable vector path. We can use the path for several different things.

img(2)

We have the triangle here which is a shape layer. It has a vector path associated with it. We can use to perform path operations like adding, subtracting, excluding and so on. So here you can see how to use the path of the shape layer to cut a hole in the shape. First copy and paste the path. Then scale it down and position it. Once the path is in desired position and select Subtract From Shape Area option.

img(3)

Step 3

Here I am going to add more elements that will define the outline. Use the Rectangle Tool to create the shape.

img(4)

Step 4

Press Ctrl + T to enter transform mode. Right click on the shape and choose Skew. Click and move the pointer across shape.

img(5)

Step 5

After you skewed the shape, duplicate it by simply pressing Ctrl + J. That will create a copy of the shape. Select the shape and press Ctrl + T. Choose Flip Horizontal from the menu.

img(6)

Step 6

Now position the slanted shapes over the triangle. Press Ctrl + T and rotate the shape by -60 degrees. Use the Info palette (F8) to view the coordinates.

img(7)

Step 7

Rotate and reposition the other shape as well. Place both the shapes underneath the triangle layer.

Create a Library Aquarium Photomanipulation https://www.photoshoptutorials.ws/photoshop-tutorials/library-aquarium/ https://www.photoshoptutorials.ws/photoshop-tutorials/library-aquarium/#comments Mon, 18 Mar 2024 10:19:20 +0000 https://www.photoshoptutorials.ws/?p=165926

“I am like the fish in the aquarium, thinking in a different language, adapting to a life that’s not my natural habitat. I am the people in the other cars, each with his or her own story, but passing too quickly to be noticed or understood.” In This Photoshop tutorial, we will learn how to create a surreal scene of a jellyfish Aquarium. First, we added a Library then insert a water roof and add some fishes. Then add bubbles and Jellys, also added some light and glow. For the last effect, we added a Camera Raw filter.

Step 1

Now, let’s start by creating a new image file, go to the Menu bar and click File > New, and then input the following values on their respective fields

  • Preset: Custom
  • Width: 3080px
  • Height: 3080px
  • Resolution: 72px
  • Color Mode: RGB Color 8 bit
  • Background Contents: Transparent

Step 2

Now, place Library Go to File > Place and select Library. Then place it to our work canvas. Then position the image with the transform tool (Ctrl / Cmd + T). Hold Alt + Shift and rasterize like the image below. In Photoshop CC only hold Alt to rasterize all sides together.

Then use a Pen Tool(P) and start select roof. When we finish the selection press right click on mouse and “Make Selection” then create layer mask..The simplest path you can draw with the standard Pen tool is a straight line, made by clicking the Pen tool to create two anchor points. By continuing to click, you create a path made of straight line segments connected by corner points.

  • Select the Pen tool.
  • Position the Pen tool where you want the straight segment to begin, and click to define the first anchor point (do not drag).
  • Click again where you want the segment to end
  • Continue clicking to set anchor points for additional straight segments.
  • The last anchor point you add always appears as a solid square, indicating that it is selected. Previously defined anchor points become hollow, and deselected, as you add more anchor points
  • Complete the path by doing one of the following:
  • To close the path, position the Pen tool over the first (hollow) anchor point. A small circle appears next to the Pen tool pointer  when it is positioned correctly. Click or drag to close the path.
  • To leave the path open, Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac OS) anywhere away from all objects. To leave the path open, you can also select a different tool.

Step 1

Open Photoshop and create a new document by clicking File > New. I made my document 2000 px by 2000 px (it doesn't matter the resolution since we're using pixels). I titled my document "Comic Book Text Effect".
step-001

Step 2

Now it's time to add a gradient to your background. Double-click your background layer to bring up the layer style window and apply this setting.
step-002

Step 3

Create a new layer. Fill it with any color and change the fill to 0%. Double-click this layer to bring up the layer style window and apply this pattern.
step-003

Step 4

Create a New Layer. Select the Brush tool (B) then set the brush size to 1957 pixels. You can use whatever color you want. Now place your halftone in the center of your document as shown in the image below. Also, change your layer to Luminosity with a Fill of 16%.
step-004

Step 5

Create a New Layer. Grab your Pen tool (P) and create a shape as shown in the image below.
step-005

Step 6

Go to your Paths tab and right-click the path you just created and click Make Selection. Click 'ok'.
step-006

Step 7

Fill this selection with whatever color you want. Then double-click this layer to apply a Color Overlay and a Drop Shadow.
step-007

Step 8

Add Drop Shadow
step-008

Step 9

Create a New Layer. Make a selection from your previous layer by clicking Ctrl and selecting the thumbnail image. Grab your Brush tool again and use the halftone brush and place it in your document as shown below. You can use whatever color you wish.
step-009

Step 10

Double-click this layer and add this Gradient Overlay. Make sure your Fill is at 0%.
step-0010

Step 11

Create a New Layer. Grap your pen tool and create a outline for the shape that we created. Make a selection from it and fill it with #000000. Place this layer underneath that shape layer.
step-0011

Step 12

Grab your type tool, I will be making the word "POW!" in this example but you can use whatever word you wish. I'm using Komika Axis with a 125.5 pt.
step-0012

Step 13

Duplicate this layer and place it under the original "P" layer. We will use it later. Take your original "P" layer and add these layer styles.
step-0013

Step 14

Add Contour
step-0014

Step 15

Add Inner Glow
step-0015

Step 16

Add Satin
step-0016

Step 17

Your "P" should look like this.
step-0017

Step 18

Now remember that "P" we duplicated, select that layer. Using your arrow keys move this layer five times to the right and five times downward. Make sure your Move tool is selected.
step-0018

Step 19

Take this layer you just moved and duplicate it again (moving it five times to the right and five times downward). Repeat the same steps stated previously to three more "P" layers. So, in total you should have 6 "P" layers including your original "P" layer.]]>

How to Paint a Woman Portrait from Scratch https://www.photoshoptutorials.ws/photoshop-tutorials/paint-woman-portrait-scratch/ https://www.photoshoptutorials.ws/photoshop-tutorials/paint-woman-portrait-scratch/#comments Mon, 18 Mar 2024 06:38:00 +0000 https://www.photoshoptutorials.ws/photoshop-tutorials/paint-woman-portrait-scratch/

In this tutorial I'll show you how to paint a woman portrait from scratch. You'll learn some basic rules to form your painting, the tips to paint effectively, how to use brush and take care of the details. A graphic tablet is highly recommended for this tutorial.

We'll start this tutorial by learning something basic of female face anatomy to define the base of our painting. After creating the base of the head we'll go more for the details of the face, hair, body and dress. Later we'll use a few adjustment layers to make the color stand out. Finally we'll refine some details to complete the process. You can use any versions of Photoshop to follow this tutorial.

Tutorial Resources

Step 1

Create a new document in Photoshop with the given settings:

portrait1

The background color should be black.

It's very important to work on a large canvas so you can pay attention to the details.

Step 2

Create a basic shape of the head using a basic, hard brush with the color #c99e80 on the upper section of the black canvas.

portrait2

Before detailing it you should know something basic of female anatomy, especially if you don't use any specific photo references. Every human head is different but here are something in general to remember if you're going to paint a portrait from a frontal view with a straight look (not smiling):

- The nose length should be about 1/2 of the part counted from the highest point of the nose to the lowest point of the chin.

- The edges of the nostril should reach as far as the inner edges of the eyes.

- The lowest part of the nose should be in-line vertically with the lowest part of the cupid's bow.

- The edges of the mouth ( the lips corners) should be lined-up horizontally with the jaw and vertically with the edges of the irises.

- The mouth is always larger than the width of the nostril edges except you want to draw a child portrait.

If you want to draw a portrait from different looks and sides, some rules above will change.

Draw some lines to define the basic parts of the head and make sure that everything is as proportional as possible. We don't paint the ears in this tutorial as they will be covered by the hair. Place this layer above all other layers and we'll be using them as a guidance .

portrait2a

Step 3

Make a new layer and change the settings for the brush as shown below (press F5):

portrait3

Change the foreground to #b09e92 and start to paint some shade on the face. It's very important to define the light source in the very first time so you can paint properly later. In this case I tend to make light come straight in the front.

portrait3a

Step 4

Create a new layer and use a soft brush with the color #220e03 to paint in the middle of the face. We'll correct it so don't worry if it looks rough.

portrait4

Click the second button at the bottom of the Layer Panels to add a mask to this layer. Use a brush with the hardness varied from 20% to 70%, the opacity and flow about 20 and 30% to define a nose form using the lines drawn in the step 2 as a guidance.

portrait4a

Step 5

Paint with the color #560e16 under the nose and use a layer mask to define the lips base with some details. You should vary the opacity and flow of the brush to make the light and shade of the lips:
