In this tutorial, you will learn how to create an amazing futuristic photo manipulation and you will learn how to turn a simple portrait into an amazing images of a futuristic stranger and unusual atmosphere. You will create something new in this genre and learn many useful techniques.
In this tutorial will be described in four stages of creation. The first stage is to create the background and the addition of the model. The second stage is the creation of mechanical arms and work on their realism. In the last two stages, we will work on the effects and color correction of the image. You need electricity (in principle, it is important :)), a little perseverance and patience. A modicum of attention and spark of inspiration and good mood, any version of Photoshop.
- Background – Jinz-stock
- Model – Mo-01
- Apple – JoBusty
- PNG leafs – Meyiing

First you need to turn on your computer and open the browser with this tutorial :), then open Photoshop. Create a new document. Go to File > New or the short key Cmd /Ctrl+ N. A blank document with size of 2000 pixels wide and 3000 pixels high, resolution 200 Pixels/Inch. I named the document “Cyber- Eve”.
The first thing we will work on the background. This photo interesting and unusual content, so it was perfectly fine to me. Put image on the working document. Go to File > Place (Place Embedded) and select the image “MAM_ceiling_3_by_Jinz_stock”.
First you need to properly locate it. Use the Free Transform tool (Ctrl/Cmd+ T or Edit > Free Transform) to resize the layer like shown in the image below. Try to have a black stripe on the image has been shifted slightly to the right from the center.
Now we need to slightly reduce the noise in the image and make parts smoother. So they will look better in the general atmosphere. Firs convert this layer for Smart Filters (Filter > Convert for Smart Filters). Then go to Filter > Noise > Reduce Noise… Set the settings like shown in the image below.
Now sharpen the image. For this I used the filter “Sharpen” (Filter > Sharpen > Sharpen…). Do not worry if nothing happens and does not appear the settings window. As it should be. The main thing that this filter is displayed on the layer.
Now I add blur to the background to create depth of field. Since this layer is already contains Smart Filters that if we add a layer with blur, and then remove it with a part of the image, then the effects of the previous filters disappear. So, right-click on the layer and select from the list “Convert to Smart Object“.
Now add a blur filter. I used “Gaussian Blur” (Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur…). Set the settings like shown in the images below.
Now you need to remove the blur from the foreground of image. Create a New layer (Layer > New > Layer or Cmd/Ctrl+ Shift + N). Select Brush Tool (B) on Toolbar and set the settings Size: 500px, Hardness: 0%, Opacity: 70%, Flow: 100%. Set foreground color to Black (D then X). Select a smart filters mask.
Remove blur from middle of left side and a little less (change Opacity to 50%) from right side of image.
Image is too dark for my purposes, and not in the tonality, so using adjustment layers I changed it. Add to this layer adjustment layer “Curves” (Layer > New Adjustment layer > Curves… or click on black and white circle on a Layer panel and in list, select “Curves…”) to align the tone and add a brightness to image. Set the settings like shown in the image below.
Add next adjustment layer “Selective Color” This adjustment layer will help remove excess Greens and Cyan colors. You can also lighten up a little white and mid-tones. Set the settings like shown in the images below.
Now we need to do a preform for the future. We will create a small colored spot in the middle of the image. Shadow from opposite side of the building very noticeable. Use Gradient Tool (G) and set following settings Form: Foreground to Transparent, Method: Radial, Opacity: 40%, Color: # 2793a1.
Make a small spot on the shadow like shown in the image below. This will help us in the future to make the background more inconspicuous.
Now add a model to our work. Go to File > Place (Place Embedded) and select the image “Stock_Model_61_by_Mo_01”. Use the Free Transform tool (Ctrl/Cmd+ T or Edit > Free Transform) to resize the layer like shown in the image below.
Use the Quick Selection Tool (W) and select the background. Be careful, because some parts of the clothes may be added to the selection. Inverse selection (Cmd/Ctrl+ Shift+ I or Select > Inverse).
Now go to Refine Edge in the top panel of the tool’s properties (Option/Alt+ Cmd/Ctrl+ R or Select > Refine Edge). Set View Mode to “On Black” so we can see the remains of a light background. Set a check on “Smart Radius” and set Radius: 1.7px. Take a Brush in this window and draw it on a model hair. It remove background from hair. Click Ok to apply changes.
Add to layer with model a layer mask (Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal Selection or click icon on Layer Panel).
Proceed to draw light and shadow on the model. Create a New layer (Layer > New > Layer or Cmd/Ctrl+ Shift+ N) with such settings: Mode: Overlay, set check box on “Fill with Overlay-neutral color (50% gray)”. Set this layer as Clipping Mask (Option/Alt+ Ctrk+ G or Layer > Create Clipping Mask), it imposed effects will be applied to the lower layer (layer model).
Use the Burn Tool (O) for create shadow and Dodge Tool (O) to create a light. Set the settings to each tool like shown in the image below.
Draw light and shadow with the light based on light from the window and on top in the future. Do not do a contrasting shade too, otherwise they will be strongly emphasized. Blue shows where to draw the light, and red – the shade.
We proceed to the hands. This part takes a little patience and attention from you to properly position the parts of hands. Open resource “mechanical_parts_by_mariasemelevich-d7x76tf” (Cmd/Ctrl + O or File > Open).
Take a Lasso Tool (L) and select first in the form of bent arms. Use Move Tool (V) to move this part in working document. If you want work faster, then hold Cmd/Ctrl (when you use other tool) to switch to Move Tool (V). If you release the key, then return to the tool which you working.
Use the Free Transform tool (Ctrl/Cmd+ T or Edit > Free Transform) to rotate the layer like shown in the image below.
Repeat Step 15 (starting with the second paragraph) with the other two parts of the hand. Arrange layers with hands parts so that the next layer was under the previous.
Now move the last hand and place this layer behind model layer that was part of a hand behind her head. Place this hand like shown in the image below.
Add the remaining element in the modernization of the model body. Select both fragment and moved to the working document. Place them as shown in the figure. Change the Blending mode to this layer on “Soft Light”.
